The Christmas Tree Whirlwind of 2020

The Lum Farm Christmas Tree Whirlwind of 2020 has officially concluded. Little did we know we would be out of trees by the second week of December!!!

Eric and Amy each made a trip in the big blue truck, stacked high with trees from a farm in Acme, WA.

We were able to supply over 350 trees to island homes during a season that had a tree shortage due to fires and the pandemic. We offer heartfelt thanks to all of you who came and supported our farm while also supporting the families of Orcas Island through this fundraiser. The tree sale was so successful that we are able to donate thousands of dollars, splitting the proceeds between the Orcas Community Resource Center, the public school's PTSA, Kaleidoscope, Children's House, Orcas Montessori and Salmonberry School. Wow!

The chickens were the real celebrities of the tree sales.

It truly was a 10 day whirlwind. We got to witness some pretty sweet moments as island families picked out their tree (and chased chickens). Folks were clearly ready to bring some holiday cheer into their homes as this difficult year comes to a close. It was all-hands-on-deck for the farmworkers, who sold trees in the midst of taking care of the animals and filling farm stand orders, as well as hosting our Winter Wooly Pop Up Shop. We are ready for a long winter's nap!

To those of you who did not get a tree in time, we apologize that we did not have enough! We don’t want you to go tree-less this season! Reach out to a friend with property that might have a wildcrafted tree for you. The Seattle Times recently published an article about legally harvesting trees in area national forests that might be helpful.

Cajeta, Cards by Lucy, Wreaths by Emmy of Fabled Flora are still available at the Farm Stand. Toby may or may not be in costume.

Our farm stand will remain open up till Christmas, Thursdays through Saturday, 2pm-5:30pm. This Saturday, Dec. 12, we will have one more day with our “Wooly Winter Pop Up Shop” featuring Bossy’s Feltworks ornaments, Sheepskins, Wreaths by Fabled Flora, and an assortment of farm-based cards and gifts. The farm stand will remain open all winter long, with artisan meats (lamb, pork, beef and goat) and cheeses. Visit www.lumfarmllc.com for online ordering.

The early days of the sale, when there were still lots of trees, and we were still upright.
